[OOC] Yuuko's Shop Layout/Rules
♫This post is an explanation of the shop, it's properties, and what it looks like. It will have pictures so be weary of page stretching and length. This is NOT dial up friendly. And contains spoilers for HOLiC/Tsubasa. All screencaptures/scans were done by me, so if you would like to use them for icons or images please credit/ask :D » In xxxHOLiC, Yuuko's shop is in modern Japan (assuming Tokyo but it never states really). It is surrounded by tall buildings and has Sakura Trees (cherry blossom trees) within the yard. The fence that is along the front of the shop has wards placed on it so that evil spirits or things that are unwelcomed may not enter. ![]() Watanuki placing his hands on the fence from xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Dream ![]() The shop during summer from xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Dream ![]() The shop during spring from CLAMP in Wonderland 2 » There is a large half of the yard next tot he entry way where most of the major events of xxxHOLiC happen that relate to Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. In the movie xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Dream it is shown to be somewhat rundown and unkept, however in other places such as the manga it is very lush with grass everywhere. This is also the location that Yuuko sent the main cast of Tsubasa off on their journey. There is also a backyard to the shop, however the only event that happens here is in xxxHOLiC Kei where Yuuko sends Watanuki to free Zashiki-Warashi. ![]() Watanuki cleaning the storage room treasures in the yard from xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Dream ![]() Watanuki being harassed by Mokona from xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Dream ![]() A shot of the shop yard into the street from xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Dream ![]() The yard during spring from CLAMP in Wonderland 2 ![]() Yuuko sending the Tsubasa-tachi off with White Mokona from Tsubasa Chroncile: Princess of the Birdcage Country ![]() Yuuko sends the real Syaoran to his right eye from Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations ![]() The backyard from xxxHOLiC Kei » The porch that is part of the yard/shop is where several important explanations happen within the story. Here it is where Yuuko explains to Watanuki the conditions about the half-eye he receives from Doumeki, also where she sits while drinking to the full moon. Within Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles and Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations it is where she explains to Mokona about why she did not help the Real Syaoran any sooner. In CLAMP In Wonderland 2 it is where she is reading Rayearth and the Mokonas ask her to send her to the other worlds. It is also where in DA she spends most of her time when people are visiting during spring/summer. It also has a pretty wind chime! ![]() Yuuko and Watanuki after his eye is eaten in Volume 8 of xxxHOLiC ![]() Yuuko becoming aware of the seal on Clone!Syaoran's right eye in Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations ![]() Yuuko reading Rayearth and being motherly assaulted in CLAMP in Wonderland 2 ![]() Watanuki preparing the Mokonas for their journey in CLAMP in Wonderland 2 The entry way is on the right side as you walk through the gate and on the path. It opens with double doors into a small walkway where there is a little notch for mail. There is a small screen with a crescent moon (which appears to be a symbol with Yuuko much like the butterfly) on the step above. This follows Japanese homes where the walkway is where you remove/place on your outside shoes and place on/take off your indoor shoes. Beyond the screen, the hallway breaks off into a T. It is never shown fully where each hall leads, but one does lead to the "main room" which is where Yuuko usually spends most of her time. ![]() Watanuki entering the shop in xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Dream ![]() The small mail notch left by the front door (inside) from xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Dream ![]() Maru and Moro in the hallway waiting for Watanuki from xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Dream » The main room is fairly large and is the room where Watanuki first met Yuuko in xxxHOLiC. It opens with two shoji (Japanese sliding doors) and has a large curtain in the background. In the center of the room is Yuuko's couch(/bed?) where she is generally sitting. There is also a table off to the side but when Watanuki brings Yuuko food or sake, the table is brough out into the main part of the room. ![]() Yuuko and Mokona in the main room from xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Dream ![]() Watanuki and Yuuko in the main room from xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's dream ![]() Yuuko from xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Dream (because flirting for the win) ![]() Yuuko, Watanuki, Maru and Moro in the main room from xxxHOLiC Kei The next major room is what I refer to as the "Interview Room" or "Wish Granting Room." It is right across the hall from the main room. At times Yuuko will meet with her customers here, but it isn't always featured. Here there is a small table with two chairs and a shoji door leading into the house and the outside. Watanuki usually hides behind the shoji door within the shop to listen in on Yuuko and her customers. This door is red and has yet another crescent moon on it. It was featured more often in the early parts of the manga, in the movie, and in Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations. Most likely this is the room that leads off onto the porch that is connected to the yard. ![]() Watanuki, Yuuko and the mysterious girl from xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Eve ![]() Yuuko catching Watanuki and the door to the main room xxxHOLiC: A Midnight Summer's Eve ![]() Watanuki serving Yuuko during early spring from Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations There are other several rooms such as bedrooms and a kitchen and the baths. Their location isn't known exactly, however. The next and probably most important room of the shop is the Treasure Room. Everything that is material that Yuuko recieves as price goes into this room. In places in the manga Yuuko and Watanuki both are seen looking at Fai's marking and Kurogane's sword that was used as payment. This is also the room where Watanuki first finds the two Mokonas made by Clow and Yuuko. ![]() The doorway into the Treasure Room from xxxHOLiC ![]() Yuuko talking about Clow in the treasure room in Volume 1 of xxxHOLiC ![]() Yuuko with the replication of Sakura's staff in Volume 1 of xxxHOLiC ![]() The two Mokonas abusing Watanuki in Volume 2 of xxxHOLiC ![]() Yuuko speaking through White Mokona in Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations The next two rooms are hardly ever seen: Yuuko's bedroom and the bath. The bath makes it's appearance in both the manga and anime when Watanuki returns from visiting Zashiki-Warashi. However, Yuuko's room is only shown in the xxxHOLiC anime. And her bed is lovely so I capped it from Youtube ♥ There is also the kitchen but I'll update that later. Also specially in xxxHOLiC Kei is a Tea Room which is themed for Alice in Wonderland. ![]() (bathroom) Watanuki returning after his eye was eaten in xxxHOLiC Kei ![]() (bathroom) Yuuko and Mokona welcoming Watanuki home in xxxHOLiC Kei ![]() Yuuko's bedroom from xxxHOLiC ![]() Yuuko's bedroom from xxxHOLiC » Yuuko's shop works under the rules she does. Hitsuzen is what brings you to her shop and thus works under those rules: only those who need her services, are able to see and enter the shop. An example is that at one point in the manga, Doumeki was unable to see her shop or enter it and thus when he needed to speak with Yuuko he had to meet her else where. However Doumeki could see and enter the shop once Watanuki nearly died, and every time after that. Himawari as well. To those who do not need Yuuko or her shop, the shop doesn't even seem to exist. All that can be seen is an empty lot with two posts in the ground. ![]() Doumeki and Yuuko outside the empty lot in Volume 8 of xxxHOLiC Yuuko's shop is "grounded" by Maru and Moro. As things escalate and Sakura and the others in Tsubas begin to change the future, along with Fei Wong Reed's plans, the shop barriers begin to weaken. Yuuko is seen destroying two headed crows, and Watanuki asks where Maru and Moro are. Yuuko explains to Mokona that if Maru and Moro sleep they must concentrate on nothing but keeping the shop in place. |
